Place Labels

This option lets you to place construction labels for objects and its associated Accessory Kit parts (where the object part number has an associated Accessory Kit), and generate a BOM report to a construction drawing for the parts used.

Accessed from:
  • Section Cuts Ribbon
The following dialog opens:
Note: BOM tables are dynamically updated (i.e., refreshed) with current part number information each time the page is opened.
Note: To customize a report template when generating Bill of Material report, use the Report Template Designer tool found on the Template Management palette. The BOMTemplateName setting can then be specified in the Project Settings to determine the default report template file.
SettingDescription
Label Options
  • Construction-ID - Considers objects placed in the project and associates labels with the Device ID.
  • Grounding Grid - Places labels for grounding grid objects.
  • Parts Based - Places labels based on part numbers. This option is intended to place labels in the construction drawings before they are imported into the project.
Part When you select the Parts Based label option, you have the ability to filter the list of parts in the parts database by the following fields:
  • Category - Select a category to filter the list of parts by the category field in the parts database.
  • Discipline - Select a discipline to filter the list of parts by the Discipline field in the parts database.
  • Manufacturer - Select a manufacturer to filter the list of parts by the manufacturer field in the parts database.
  • Description - Select a description to filter the list of parts by the category field in the parts database.
  • Part Number - Select the part number for which you want to place a label.
  • Accessory Kit - If the selected part number has an associated accessory kit, the kit's name will be displayed here.
Device ID When you select the Construction - ID label option, you have the ability to specify how the part number quantities should be calculated and displayed in the BOM report. You have the option of placing on the construction drawing using the Output BOM feature as described below:
  • Quantity For Project - Adds up all occurrences of the part number used throughout the project and lists this quantity in the BOM report.
  • Installation - Adds up all occurrences of the part number used in the selected installation and lists this quantity in the BOM report.
  • Location - Adds up all occurrences of the part number used in the selected location and lists this quantity in the BOM report.
  • Description1 - Adds up all part number descriptions and lists the descriptions in the BOM report.
  • Device Tag - Adds up all occurrences of the part number sharing the selected device tag and lists this quantity in the BOM report.
Label Tag Enter a label name and press the + button to add a label to a device in the drawing. You must enter data points to place the leader line and label. The BOM report will only show parts that have been labeled. If you specified a tag in the Label_Prefix field of the parts database record, that label will automatically fill in.
ACK Parts If you select a device that has an accessory kit associated with it, the software will list each part number in the accessory kit here. You can enter a tag prefix for each part number in the kit should you choose to place a label for these accessory part numbers. If you specified a Tag_Prefix in the Label_Prefix field of the parts database record, that Tag_Prefix will automatically fill in.
Place Label If you select a part number listed in the ACK Parts table, you can select the Place Label button to place a label for this part number. You must enter data points to place the leader line and label.
Refresh Tags When a label/tag text is entered and then the symbol inserted, it becomes locked so that it can be placed multiple times, but the text will always be the same. If the user wants to change the text they must remove all labels. At this point, the dialog will still show the label as red text indicating it's locked. The refresh will clear any labels that no longer exist on the currently active drawing so that new text can be entered.
Output BOM Creates a Bill Of Materials based on the labels placed in the drawing. The BOM contains the label ID, quantity, part number and description. The template for the report is defined in the BOMTemplateName project setting.
Note: The Device ID settings in this dialog define how the quantity is calculated.
A symbol with the symbol-name LABEL is used for the label graphics. The leader line uses the same symbology as the label symbol. The following is a list of required LABEL symbol attributes:
  • LableID (Label tag)
  • KitName (ACK name)
  • KitPart (ACK part no)
  • DeviceID
The symbol name for the graphical BOM table is defined in the Project Settings by the BOMSymbolName variable. The following is a list of required BOM symbol attributes:
  • LabelID (Label tag)
  • Quantity (Number of parts)
  • PartRef (Part no)
  • PartDescription (Part Description)
  • DeviceID
